The day I graduated was the day I realized I am capable of all things. –Ashley, 2019 graduate

Ashley grew up on the rough side of a rural Missouri town with a family enmeshed in a life of crime and poverty. “I used to see other people go to college and make something of themselves, but success was for other people, not people like me,” she recently said. I finally took a leap of faith–I left my abusive husband and broke through the ‘I can’t’ mindset. I made sacrifices. I cried a lot. Graduating from The Grooming Project was the first thing I strove for and accomplished. I got on my feet, got my car. I’m paying my bills. The day I graduated was the day I realized I am capable of all things. I can. That life is for me. School changed my life, my mindset, and my children’s future. It was the first place I found real friendship and real compassion.”

Empowering the Parent to Empower the Child (EPEC) is a 501c3 organization dedicated to reducing generational poverty in Kansas City.

Through our state-certified grooming school and our Lee's Summit grooming salon, we train struggling parents to be pet groomers and salon managers, both in-demand, living-wage trades.
